Philips DirectLife

The Philips DirectLife is a set of activity programs aimed at increasing fitness. It comprises a web application, and an activity monitor, which is a portable sensor which records your movement and can be connected to a personal computer to upload information to the DirectLife website. The website uses the information to assess your current activity levels, and then to suggest an activity plan and track your performance against it. The DirectLife website shows your performance level, and calorie usage, and the activity monitor itself displays a current activity score for the day.

NutritionData is a website operated by Condé Nast which provides a database of nutrition information about common foods, including glycemic load, inflammation factor, and breakdown of carbs, fat, and protein. The site provides tools for entering recipes and tracking and analyzing your own nutrition using this information. There are also standalone tools for calculating your recommended daily amounts, recommended BMI, and searching the food database based on nutrient amounts. Additionally, the site contains numerous guides on nutrition related topics including how to understand the numeric data, recipes, dieting, and how to make food choices.

Ascent Activity Tracker

Ascent is a software activity tracker for the Mac. It is a software application costing $40. It allows you to display, organize, and analyze exercise activities. A novel feature is that Ascent will accept data from Garmin and Polar devices, and animate it -- showing you statistics across a given running or cycling path, such as your speed across the given run or cycling trip. There is also an iPhone app available. The forums show the last post form the author at 5/2010, with posts not responded to in 12/2010 asking if the software is still supported.

BodyKey Adaptive Fitness Tracker

BodyKey is a two-part system: a physical device you keep with you, and a web app online. The physical device carries a urinalysis slot, designed to measure fat loss. Urine analysis is done with disposable cartridges. The key idea is to use urine analysis as a way to personalize efforts towards fat loss -- helping people figure out what works for them. BodyKey is not yet to market and at 3/2011 appears to still be in development.
